The Purdue train wreck impacted students and faculty throughout the school year as they had to take time to heal. The accident killed 17 students and injured over a hundred. Unfortunately, the train never made it as it was struck head on by an incoming coal train due to a switch malfunction. ![]() That day Purdue students and faculty were taking a train to Indianapolis to watch their football team compete against the school rival Indiana University.
